ITALIAN LUXURY YOGA HOLIDAY

BORGO DI CARPIANO, UMBRIA

SEPTEMBER 29 - OCTOBER 4, 2020

WINE, DINE & YOGA

Named a top wellness culinary retreat by Departures luxury travel magazine, this retreat is truly an unparalleled experience in Italian hospitality, gourmet food and Umbrian wine. Stay in a historic and stunning borgo turned luxury 10-room boutique villa set in the Italian countryside. Immerse yourself in an old-world appreciation of Italian cuisine, culture, wine, nature and yoga — all wrapped in classic Italian luxury!

BORGIO DI CARPIANO

Sleep in history and luxury! Borgo di Carpiano is a former castle turned 10-room boutique villa set in the Italian countryside. Once its own tiny village, our private borgo is a cluster of 10th-century cut-stone buildings, set on a hillside of oak, olive and lime trees. Its classic Italian style includes a grand saltwater pool and rambling gardens. Delight in the attention to all the details, from soft linen sheets to the scent of lavender on your pillow.

FOOD & WINE

The menu can be called the “zero-mile diet,” as the Borgo uses fresh organic vegetables and extra virgin olive oil from its own garden and orchards. Dishes are typical Umbrian specialties, including homemade bread and cakes, served with genuine countryside hospitality. Simplicity is the recipe. A glass of the local Sagrantino di Montefalco wine, a sprinkling of truffles from Norcia on a homemade tagliatella noodle and good company comprise a perfect evening.

FLOW OF THE DAY

Mornings

Begin at a leisurely pace with an Italian cappuccino, then take a serene walk through the Umbrian countryside. We convene in the former chapel, our sacred space to practice yoga and meditation. Our yoga teacher, Nina Butler, is known for her soothing guidance that grounds you in the present moment. We begin every day with a soulful Vinyasa flow that accommodates all levels, while emphasizing safety, awareness, intelligence.

Afternoons

Lunch is typically a mouthwatering gourmet salad or other light dish, using Umbrian produce, rare beans and other local ingredients. Afterward, you’re free to enjoy the borgo’s comforts: a massage, a swim, lounging with a book, a siesta. For those who would like to explore the region more, we invite you to join us on a guided excursion to the dazzlingly scenic town of Gubbio and a cooking class with Chef Lucca Mazza.

Evenings

At sunset each day, we meet for a rejuvenating yoga session, focusing on restorative postures, meditation and pranayama. Nina is a thoughtful storyteller and weaves insightful narratives into a yin yoga sequence. By the end of each session you will feel light, calm and relaxed. Fully restored and re-energized, we then enjoy an aperitivo and an elegant, unhurried Italian dinner under the stars, full of appreciation for la bella vita!

“Hands down, the best retreat I’ve ever been to, and I have been to many! Perfect combination of leisure, relaxation, cultural immersion, and exceptional food! Gayle’s yoga has an incredible depth of knowledge, from her anatomical references, to her deep teachings of asana and pranayama. The best is her acceptance of all levels of practice, respecting each individual’s body and level of practice. Can’t wait to join another Exotic Yoga Retreat!”
