What to Expect: Mexico Yoga Retreat at Xinalani
Each year-end we partake in what has become an Exotic Yoga Retreats ritual - we retreat to a private paradise bay in Mexico with a group of cosmopolitan like-minded yogis from all around the world.
We host two back-to-back retreats at the stunning private eco-resort, Xinalani. The first is over Christmas, the second is over New Years, and each are a week long. On both retreats, we have around 50 people attending and we have exclusive use of Xinalani facilities. Some of us are seeking a healthy alternative to festive season madness, others are here for friends, nature or relaxation. Regardless of the reason for arrival, by the end of each retreat, we all depart rejuvenated, bursting with positivity, and with a new family to cherish.
You might be considering joining us or contemplating alternative festive season holiday ideas. Here’s what to expect:
Xinalani Eco-Resort is situated in a private bay about 40minutes boat ride south of Puerto Vallarta. It is accessible only by boat, which is part of the thrill and splendor of the place. So the way to get there is to fly into Puerto Vallarta. Upon arrival at the airport, you filter through customs and then make your way into the arrivals hall where you can keep an eye out for the Xinalani contact with your name on a board. From the airport, it’s a short taxi ride to the marina. The Xinalani contact will help you with your luggage as your transition from motorcar taxi to water taxi! Enjoy the fresh sea air as you whizz along the coastline. Look out for dolphins and even whales en route. Depending on the tide, the water taxi either drops you off right on the Xinalani beach or a pontoon a short walk away.
Xinalani has a range of accommodation, suited to meet differing budgets and group sizes; there are private beachfront casitas for couples looking for a spoil, dormitories, and differing rooms sizes in between. All the rooms are in a characteristic style that feels luxurious, modern and beautifully integrated with nature. Expect to hear the sound of the ocean and singing chorus of the jungle at all times. Expect stunning views from all accommodation options, as the whole resort is set out on a steep slope down to the private beach. Apart from providing wondrous vistas, this layout ensures privacy for all the rooms and suites. It also ensures that you will encounter many stairs as you move between your suite, the yoga decks, beach, and dining areas!
On these special year-end retreats we offer you the opportunity to deepen your yoga practice. This December and January we have three yoga teachers on each retreat. This means that you will have a minimum of three classes per day. You are welcome to go to all of them, one, or none! Classes will be in the morning and evening. Read about our yoga teachers here. All classes are open level, and we commonly get a wide range of fitness levels, ages, and experience.
Food and drinks
Whilst there is always an emphasis on ‘health’ and ‘vitality’, these are not ‘detox retreats’, or boring for food-lovers! The Xinalani chefs and kitchen staff are renowned for their exceptional regional dishes and creative flair. Expect to experience some of Mexico’s finest dishes and flavors. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style, with a huge array of fresh produce, delicious treats, fresh-pressed juices, and divine regional coffee. Dinner is plated and there are usually four courses - all dietary preferences taken into account! You might be wondering what we drink to wash down this delectable cuisine. There is a beach bar, serving international wines, as well as some superb cocktails! In true Exotic Yoga Retreats tradition, we raise a glass each evening and toast the passing of a gorgeous day.
Your retreat time is your own! We invite you to join all yoga classes and mingle with our fascinating cosmopolitan group of travelers, and yet we also fully respect that some may crave quiet time alone. Xinalani is a perfect setting for this. Curl up with a book on a hammock overlooking the ocean, take a stroll on the beach, or even book a session in the on-site spa. For those looking for something unique, there is a Temazcal on the beach, and the opportunity to experience an ancient Mayan practice. There are also plenty of other water sports activities. We often have families and couples on these retreats, as well as solo travelers, and the array of activities including, surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, stand up paddle-boarding, windsurfing, whale watching, and swimming keeps everyone feeling energized and fulfilled.
We invite you to experience all this first hand and join us this December and January. Let’s see out 2019, and ring in 2020 on the right frequency, together.
