Treat yourself to a massage, meditate in on-site Buddhist temples, or simply savor the fresh air and mountain views!
August 1–3 | Arrive to an ancient palace in Paro
After an early morning flight from Bangkok to Bhutan, settle into our guides’ favorite hotel, a former Bhutanese royal retreat. Enjoy a gentle unwinding yoga practice outside under prayer flags and with a view to the Paro Valley below. Meet your fellow yogis at our welcome dinner at the lovely Gangtey Palace, tasting Bhutanese food in its finest traditional expression! Dig into history and culture at the National Museum and Paro’s massive 17th-century dzong (monastery-fortress), wander Paro or take a siesta and a hot stone bath or massage. We end our days with a rejuvenating restorative yoga and pranayama practice followed by a healthy dinner family style.
August 3–5 | Thimpu, Capital of Bhutan
Drive to Bhutan’s capital city, Thimphu, and settle into the Terma Linca Spa Resort a few miles outside of town. Receive a glimpse into present day Bhutanese culture and view how people have adapted to the 21st-century: Visit artisans making traditional crafts. meditate with monks. Make an exciting two-hour trek into pine and rhododendron forests to reach a hilltop monastery where we join the monks in their chants and meditation. In the evening, enjoy great Bhutanese cuisine and an optional night out at one of Thimphu’s dance clubs renown for great electronic beats! Before leaving Thimphu, pay homage to the world’s largest golden Buddha, Dordenma - 169 feet tall and filled with 125,000 small Buddha statues.
August 5–8 | Punakha, rice paddies & the divine madman
Cross the 10,300-foot pass to the lush green Punakha Valley, famous for rice cultivation and the unusual “Temple of the Divine Madman”. Stay at a family resort set among the green rice paddies, with beautiful views from our yoga shala. Trek to Chimi Lhakhang, built in 1499. It is one of Bhutan’s most sacred temples—and, as you will see, also a bit funny! Explore the dazzling Punakha Dzong on day 7, a massive complex that is one of Bhutan’s architectural treasures.
August 8–11 | Tigers nest & a stunning 5-star spa hotel
If skies are clear, we trade our usual morning yoga for an adventurous surprise...! Next, we will travel back to Paro town where we spend our final three nights at a stunning 5-star hotel, Zhiwaling Spa & Resort, set on 11 acres of meadows and mountains. Luxuriate at the hotel spa, practice yoga in the fully equipped studio, meditate in the temple, or pick any beautiful spot, indoors or out, to relax and enjoy your retreat time as you wish! Weather permitting, we will trek up to the famous Paro Taktsang, aka the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, clinging to a mountainside 2,700 feet above the valley floor. On our last evening, we will have our closing yoga practice and farewell group dinner, celebrating our new friends and new perspectives from this sacred time together.
August 11 | Farewell to Bhutan & new friends
Breakfast and a leisurely transport to the airport for your flight back to Bangkok. With joy and gratitude, we bid farewell to Bhutan!
