Join our exclusive 11-day African safari in a magical journey from the Indian ocean to the savannas and forests of South Africa—do yoga alongside the Big 5, up close and personal! This “Bush to Beach” adventure will take us on thrilling game drives through the diverse landscapes of Eastern South Africa, culminating in coastal and beach time, diving, snorkeling and swimming with dolphins! We will stay at gorgeous luxury lodges in extraordinary wild settings. . . doing yoga along the way!
ITINERARY FOR THE AFRICAN YOGA SAFARI
The South African Safari Yoga Retreat is a great trip for both the solo traveler, couples or friends. Reserve early, as there is space for only 7 guests.
Day 1–3 Zululand’s Amakhosi Game Lodge
We will greet you at the King Shaka Airport and drive together to the stunning and intimate Luxurious Leopard Mountain Game Lodge, set in a private Rhino reserve dedicated to protecting the black rhinos.. Each morning and evening we will join our guide on game drives through a blend of savanna, woodlands and hills… home to ‘Big 5′ game. Our yoga practices will be in beautiful settings—energizing and relaxing! Down-time options include relaxing by the pool, reading in the lodge and optional spa & massage services in nearby lodges.
Day 3–6 World Heritage Site, Isimangaliso Wetland Park
Delight in three romantic nights and four glorious days on Lake Shengeza Kosi Forest Lodge, in the unspoiled wilderness Isimangaliso Wetland Park, now internationally recognised as a World Heritage Site. These luxury thatched bush suites are set in a beautiful sand forest, on the banks of the Kosi Lake. The 16-bed lodge, with it’s romantic open-air en-suite bathrooms, fine cuisine and eco-luxury accommodations, is one South Africa’s best ecotourist destinations. Explore this truly unique ecosystem by boat and by canoe as you tour through the Kosi Bay outdoors and a snorkel at the world famous “aquarium” in the mouth of the lagoon.
Day 6–9 Yoga on the beach at Elephant Coast, Thonga Bay
Swim with dolphins, snorkel in the colorful reefs, and meet the rich diversity of sea creatures, including see turtles, whale sharks and exotic fish species. This National Park is a narrow strip of forested sand dunes located along the KwaZulu Natal Coast. It is the only scuba diving area along the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park (now renamed to Isimangaliso) coastline. Classified as one of the top dive sites in the world, this 50 km reef complex boasts around 95 species of hard and soft coral, sponges, other invertebrates and around 1200 fish species. (Diving is an optional excursion). We have three full days to explore the many treasures of the Indian Ocean at Thonga Bay! We stay at the stunning Thonga Beach Lodge.
Day 9 –11 Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve
We have three more game drives at the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve, situated in KwaZulu Natal and internationally recognized as one of the top game reserves in South Africa. Our final two nights will be at the highly acclaimed Tree House Lodge, 7 km outside the reserve. The Tree Lodge is a truly special retreat where you will be accommodated in luxurious stilted chalets set in the cool tranquility of a fever tree forest. We will close our retreat with dinner together on the evening of April 2nd. By 10 am on April 3rd, we will have you at the King Shaka airport in Durban.
